Co-founder of Mauriora, Tamara is the maker, taster and face of Mauriora.

Tamara dreamt of working with her whānau, the development of Mauriora has been guided by whanaungatanga, manaakitanga & rangatiratanga, attributes that were instilled in her growing up within the Haahi Rātana movement by her whānau.

My strength is not as an individual but as a collective.

With over seventeen years working in Māori Education at the University of Canterbury, Tamara developed an integral understanding of how to support whānau from diverse cultures and backgrounds to gain an appreciation of tikanga Māori. Mauriora is her waka to continue this journey.

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, the people, the people.

Booker T Gibbs

Kaiwhakahaere taputapu - Chief Technician and Brewer

Co-founder Booker is the hands on ‘Mauriora Technician.’ He has been responsible for the technical know-how and scaling up of production of Mauriora since the company was established.

He originally converted the home garage into a fully certified food production facility and brought our vintage morrie ora into fruition.

Natalia Kirwan

Kaiāwhina whakarite - Administration

Alongside being a full-time Māmā and co-founder to three pepi (all under 5 years of age), Natalia is responsible for business administration, assisting in production, dispatch, product development, and social media.

Before establishing Mauriora with her Māmā and partner, she worked as an Army Medic, before working at Te Puna Wai on a rangatahi programme.

She is passionate about ensuring the well-being of not only her whānau, but also everyone she comes into contact with.

Responsible for developing the design aesthetic of the company from interior fit-out of our commercial premises, product design, and brand development.

Julian Kirwan

Kaitohu pakihi - Business Development

After completing his studies in Māori, Tourism and Business Management, Julian set off on a short OE.

That short OE turned into nearly half his life being spent living overseas. In 2011 he set-up his first restaurant business in Amsterdam, along with his sister Natalia and Sergio, they completed the fit out and the development of the restaurant.

He joined the whānau at Mauriora to contribute to growth and development utilising his overseas knowledge and experiences while reconnecting with his Māoritanga.

Responsible for reducing the stress level, increasing productivity and improving the overall health of the team.
